In 2012 the European Cardiovascular Research Institute (ECRI) was founded as a European collaborative effort to perform Investigator Sponsored Studies in the field of cardiology.
Nicolas Van Mieghem

Prof. Nicolas Van Mieghem obtained his medical degree and cardiology degree at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. After subsequent fellowships in interventional cardiology at the Oost-Limburg Hospital in Genk, Belgium, the Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, USA, and the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands in February 2010, he joined the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC as a staff member. In 2019, he was appointed Full Professor of Interventional Cardiology.
He is involved in the percutaneous coronary interventions program and has a particular focus on transcatheter heart valve interventions. Prof. Van Mieghem obtained his PhD around that same topic. So far, he published and co-authored over 350 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Van Mieghem has been a Steering Committee member in multiple ongoing international trials evaluating various trans catheter valve technologies. Prof. Van Mieghem is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and currently Medical Director of the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam.
